I wish I had discovered this author years ago. I’m definitely buying anything he writes. His “Awkward Moments (not found in your average) Children’s Bible” series is stunning. Go buy them. Now. I’ll wait. https://www.amazon.com/Horus-Gilgamesh/e/B00FY9ZEHQ?ref=sr_ntt_srch_lnk_1&qid=1630948447&sr=8-1
These books say “Children’s Bible”, and they LOOK like they could be children’s books, thanks to the brilliant illustrations by Agnes Tickheathen, but they . . . aren’t. They are for adults like me, who grew up being told that the Bible was written by God, perfect down to the “last jot and tiddle”. Or, maybe, adults like you, who were always told that the Bible was a source of wonderful comfort and wisdom, a moral guide, a way to live your life.
How about this one?
Yeah, I almost certainly obediently recited this as a memorized Bible passage at some point. A young child has no knowledge of genetics. Do adults really just think this was another one of god’s “miracles” and shrug it off?
Then there is this gem of a passage:
If you start reading at Exodus 4:18 and go through the entire passage, I guarantee you will be confused. It’s one of the many, many passages that should make the reader stop and say “wait, what . . . why?” that people tend to just ZIP past.
And that “stop and read that again” is what Horus wants you to do. It’s a book for Christian adults, to try to get them to think for themselves about what the “good book” actually says. Not only that, but all three volumes of the series will keep you entertained all the way through. Each section quotes a Bible passage correctly, and then asks a few simple, respectful questions.
Personally, I’m highly amused by the response of some Fundamentalists who are outraged because he’s pointing out verses that they don’t want to talk about. However, I hate the fact that Horus has received death threats. I hope that he keeps writing, and that nobody kills him because he’s quoting the Bible.
Go buy his books and visit his website! You’ll be glad you did. http://www.awkwardmomentsbible.com/
