Women weren’t considered human in the Old Testament. When, in the Old Testament, they count the size of a group, they are only counting males. The Covenant with G*d was through circumcision. In the New Testament, though, they changed things up! Some women may be saved conditionally:
1 Timothy 2:11-14
11 A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. 12 I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet. 13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve. 14 And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner. 15 But women will be saved through childbearing—if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety.
Yup. Women are just sex slaves who are handy for keeping house and watching children. Be a good little breeder, don’t give your husband any trouble, be very pious and YOU, yes even YOU! – a WOMAN! might be saved.
I really wonder how nuns deal with this passage. (?) There are many, many cases of misogyny in the Bible, I consider this one of the worst of them. Women were literal slaves in Middle Eastern society, and in some places, they still are. They are owned by their Father and then by their Husband. A woman’s price in the Old Testament was literally less than that of a goat. Rape was not a crime against a woman, it was a crime of property against her owner.
A good site detailing some (only 200 in this list!) of the misogynistic verses in the Bible can be found here on the great Freedom From Religion site:
Apparently, if you’re a woman and you haven’t given birth, you can’t BE a Christian and you fry forever. Too bad.
