Witnessing

Libby Lawrence, 11/16/2020

“Witnessing” is, by it’s very nature, an insult to the person you are witnessing to. You have already made the assumption (unless they immediately say that they agree with everything you say) that they are wrong. You believe that they are deluded, misinformed, and misguided. You do not believe that they are an intelligent adult, able to read, research, and make their own choice. And if they have made a choice that disagrees with your religion, then you are doubly intent on proving that they are WRONG and you are RIGHT. The entire process is “you’re wrong, you have the wrong information, and you need MY GUIDANCE to correct your error in judgment”. It’s arrogant, insulting, disrespectful, and utterly offensive from start to finish.

Now, I have had friends who did not preach but let their actions, their compassion, their respect and gentle behavior do the speaking for them. They would not even speak of their church or their beliefs unless asked. It is the only type of witness that I consider admirable.
